So what's a viral moment i can remember, that's an excellent question and without trying to brag or embellish, i'll get into it. Going viral is something I’m used to too. My content often times, then not, gets covered on major news platforms, on Reddit, and people have done whole think pieces on some of the stuff I have said. I get hundreds of millions of impressions each year on my main platform, and hundreds of thousands of replies with people from all walks of life. My niche is that I focus on social political commentary with a dash of the occasional troll here and there through the lens of a guy who grew up in NY and seen just about everything from just about all sides of the spectrum. I focus on putting a mirror to the dominant society and saying, “Hey look, there is degeneracy in every race.” To those who just focus on the minority in a way that is romantic, my content focuses on the Black American experience and cuts through the propaganda. My influences are great minds like the great Dr. Claud Anderson, the late Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, Huey Newton, & Dr. James Smalls.
When I wake up, the first thing I usually do after stretching and brushing my teeth is check social media to see what’s going on. Social media today isn’t like it used to be when I first joined on a little site called sconnex, which was a site created to connect students from different schools. It predated Facebook by a few years. Social media today is generally negative, especially on certain platforms I won’t name in this write-up. I remember a time when MySpace was a place where creativity thrived without so much negativity. The golden era of social media, I would say. So sometimes I post specifically for a positive reaction.
So what did I post, you might ask? I’m a big fan of Katt Williams. We share the same name, which is Micah, and he always shares positive, uplifting messages in his comedy, which I’ve always enjoyed. Katt has been in the media lately for some of the manliest accusations and stories. From alleged drug use to being involved in altercations which may or may not have been his fault. So when he came across my timeline and I saw some of the work he was doing behind the scenes, I thought I’d give him a nod and let the world know just exactly what he was doing. He was building his empire similar to Tyler Perry. Katt invested in a studio property where people can shoot their movies. Similar to Tyler Perry’s studio, where box office movies have been shot.
My post was letting people know that Katt Williams just purchased a 117-Acre property that was a former Alabama military base, with over 30 buildings with three million square feet of indoor space to create his own film studio. My sentiments about this were a simple “Congrats Katt”. This post immediately went viral with over 3 million impressions and 111K likes, which is still far from my most viral posts, but this one is significant to the theme of positively and bigging up another Black man. Sometimes we can be in our own world and overlook the accomplishments of others. Which I think is very important.
So what’s my most viral moment? Too many to name, but the one for this exercise is one I’d like to highlight showing resilience, especially one that I can relate to. Sometimes we need to stop and think. Social media has turned into a cesspool of negativity, so you can either join in and create lasting memories that will invoke happiness, joy, excitement, inspiration, and motivation, or you can be a troll and cause hatred and chaos, receiving backlash from both sides of the spectrum. I will always choose the latter.
